The Bornean bay cat is one of the world’s rarest wild cats, endemic to Borneo and listed as Endangered by the IUCN. Fewer than 2,500 mature individuals are estimated to remain. Habitat loss from logging and oil palm expansion, plus hunting and snaring, are the main threats. Camera traps have confirmed its continued presence, but the species remains poorly studied and receives limited conservation funding due to its extreme elusiveness.
