Sasha: The Endearing Tale of a Tiny Black Cat

Updated: Jun 13

Sasha, a tiny black cat, defied the odds from her very beginning. Rescued from an animal shelter where her chances of adoption were slim due to the unfair scrutiny black cats often face, she found a loving home. This is her story, a testament to the joy and unique personality black cats bring, despite the superstitious nonsense that too often surrounds them.

Unjust Scrutiny and Ancient Lore

For centuries, black cats have been at the center of baseless superstitions, often associated with bad luck or witchcraft. This unfortunate prejudice leads to lower adoption rates and even cruelty in some instances. Yet, historically, many cultures have viewed black cats as symbols of good fortune. In ancient Egypt, all cats were revered, and harming a black cat was considered a grave offense. Scottish folklore suggests that a black cat arriving at a home brings prosperity, and in Japan, black cats are believed to bring good luck to single women. Sasha's story is a poignant reminder that judging any creature by its appearance, especially fur color, robs us of incredible companionship.

Leaving Big Impressions

Despite her small stature, Sasha had a larger-than-life personality. She fearlessly took on the role of alpha cat in a multi-cat household, earning respect from her feline siblings through a combination of assertive behavior and genuine affection. Her presence was a constant source of joy and amusement. She was playful, curious, and surprisingly gentle for a cat who commanded such authority.

Sasha's bond with Freddy, a larger, more laid-back cat, was particularly heartwarming. Despite their size difference, the two were inseparable, often found curled up together or engaging in playful banter. Their companionship is a testament to the unpredictable and delightful nature of cat relationships.

Sasha and Freddy were inseparable. Freddy was a big fluffy cat, and the two of them together played, ate, and slept together. It was truly endearing to watch.

Although only for six short years, Sasha had her favorite foods, feline companions, and toys. She and Freddy were close.

Sasha had an affinity for this cat tower. Cattytude didn't carry it when she was alive, but her photo inspired us to carry it. Though she seldom scratched on it, she enjoyed it as a perch where she could survey her surroundings. Although, we never got a photo of her (nor her siblings) on it, but Cattytude carries this product in its catalog in memory of her.

Oddly enough, she didn't scratch the tower often. She used it as a perch to watch the other cats.

She was also a magnificent mouser. Although we didn't have many of those, her attention span and ability to catch those things were incredible.

This blog is in loving memory of Sasha (2010-2016), a tiny black cat with a giant heart, who proved that true worth lies not in size or color, but in spirit and love. Unfortunately, I didn't take nearly enough pictures of her. I also no longer have pics of her and her siblings when I first brought them into my home. However, the memory of her remains forever embedded in my heart.
