The fishing cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) is a medium-sized wetland specialist found across South and Southeast Asia. Males weigh 8 to 17 kg (18 to 37 lb). Females average 5 to 9 kg (11 to 20 lb). It thrives in mangroves, marshes, and river edges, hunting mainly fish. The IUCN lists it as Vulnerable, with only 3,200 to 7,500 mature individuals left. Habitat loss and human conflict threaten its survival.
